Water & Gas Control

Water and gas control (WGC) is a subject that affects nearly every oilfield development. For more mature fields, unwanted water and gas already present substantial challenges. Even for new developments, many of them expect water and/or gas control challenges within a few years of start up. Well performance can be improved, additional reserves recovered, plateau production extended and decline rates slowed. Millions of dollars of capex and opex can be saved through the use of water and gas control technologies, with huge synergies on reducing potential environmental impacts, corrosion and hydrogen sulphide production.

Conventional reservoir management techniques such as workovers, cementing, plugs and patches can go a long way to achieve many of these benefits. However, the design and operation of these interventions in horizontal and multilateral wells and remote subsea locations can be highly complex and expensive. Chemical injection technologies, such as polymer, gels and foam treatments, may be more cost-effective and can also provide solutions where conventional methods fail.

Whether mechanical or chemical means are used, profile control technology can be used to significantly improve field performance.
